[Fan theory] Doom Slayer can be killed, but he can resurrect himself infinitely
When the demons dropped a temple on Doomslayer, they had a chance to kill him but didn't. Instead, they sealed him away and kept him under constant watch and guard to protect themselves from him. Why wouldn't they just kill him when he was paralyzed in the coffin? Why not kill him in the rubble? The answer: because they finally learned that when they kill him, he is resurrected almost immediately.
The Seraph gave him supernatural abilities, and since a Seraph in biblical terms is the highest form of angel, I think the last ability Doomslayer was given was reality warping "death". When the Doomslayer is killed, time itself is reversed to a few minutes before that fight, and Doomslayer is resurrected with the memory of his death.
He remembers every time he is killed. He remembers the pain, and more importantly, he remembers where all the demons are. He remembers how many of each demon he was fighting before he died, so he prepares himself. That's why he seems unkillable to the demons, because somehow he always seems to know what they will do before they do it, no matter what the odds of his survival are.
That's why they locked him away: eventually, the demon priests became aware of the holy magic at work, and decided that the only way to stop him was to seal him away, now aware that if they killed him, time would turn back and he would be resurrected; now aware of what they will do, and with the rage of being killed still fresh in his mind.
The last supernatural ability the Seraph gave him was checkpoints.
